About Termigon
Property owners in Curaçao now have a new solution to the problem of subterranean termite damage. The Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System is now being marketed on Curacao by Termigon®
The Sentricon System, developed by the University of Florida in the early 1990’s, has been used to protect more than 2,000,000 structures around the world since commercial introduction in 1995 and is the leading subterranean termite control option in the United States. The Sentricon System, marketed by Dow AgroSciences, has been used to protect many historic landmarks such as the White House, the Statue of Liberty, the Alamo, and the Fort of San Cristobel in Puerto Rico and has recently been introduced to the new construction market to protect new homes and commercial buildings from subterranean termite damage.
In the past, the only options available for the control of subterranean termites were liquid treatments that required the application of hundreds of gallons of dilute pesticide to form a barrier around and beneath a structure to keep termites out. These liquid treatments break down over time and the termites in the soil need only a small gap in the treatment to gain entry into the structure. The Sentricon System uses a slow acting insect growth regulator to completely eliminate the termite colony.
Termites continuously search for new food sources in their foraging territories. Termigon technicians place Sentricon monitoring stations in the soil around the structure, and monitor these stations for termite activity. When termites are found in the monitoring stations, the monitoring devices are replaced with a tube containing the active ingredient, noviflumuron. Termites feed on the active ingredient and pass it to other colony members. The active ingredient disrupts the molting process, eliminating the entire subterranean termite colony. After the colony has been eliminated, the monitoring devices are replaced and the technician monitors for new termite infestations.
The Sentricon System has been evaluated in more than thirty scientific studies, and is being used to protect structures around the world. Commercial installations in the Caribbean began on Grand Cayman in 1999 and the Sentricon System is now available on Curacao. For more information on the Sentricon System, contact Termigon
